Pension fund of the year - state scheme ATP

Life & Pensions Awards 2008

By any standards a pension scheme with 4.5 million members and assets of about £40 billion is big. But when you consider that for Denmark's ATP this represents over 90% of the country's working population across 150,000 employers, you appreciate its scale. In fact the Danish commitment to a comprehensive welfare state means even those on unemployment or disability benefits have pension contributions made on their behalf - in 2007 this accounted for over 20% of the fund's total contributions.
