Goldman Sachs launches longevity index

Goldman Sachs Group has launched the first in an intended series of longevity indexes, with the initial one based on an underlying group of nearly 50,000 Americans which is intended to provide a basis for trading the longevity exposure of life settlement contracts.

The initial index will independently track monthly a pool of 46,290 anonymous US citizens over age 65, and will provide real-time publication of mortality information that the investment bank hopes will underpin the burgeoning US
