German distributor tries its hand at development

German savings bank, Sparkasse KölnBonn, is planning to make a foray into the structured products manufacturing space by developing certificates and warrants in-house, a domain usually occupied by investment banks. Responding to customer demand, the former Stadtsparkasse Köln, which merged with Sparkasse Bonn on January 1 to become Sparkasse KölnBonn, expects to begin developing and manufacturing structured notes in the third or fourth quarter of this year, says Markus Müllers, head of treasury
