Abbey announces new sales blitz

Abbey’s chief executive, Francisco Gómez-Roldán, said last month that the bank intends to boost its sales force by 30%, amid a drive to boost revenues and end “unacceptable levels of employee turnover”.

Coupled with this, Abbey will link staff compensation to performance and is introducing minimum sales performance standards. Gómez-Roldán, the former chief financial officer of Grupo Santander, who joined as chief executive after the takeover of Abbey, announced the shift in strategy alongside
