S&P rolls out GSCI forward versions

Standard & Poor's has launched five new forward versions of its benchmark commodity index, the GSCI. The family will be constructed in the same way as the original S&P GSCI, but offers investors access to futures contracts of up to five months ahead.

"As commodity investment has grown, investors have been investing away from the near months, where all the traditional index money has been, farther out the curve," says Eric Kolts, S&P GSCI vice-president. The new indexes will cater to this trend by
