Macquarie consortium buys US utility

A consortium of infrastructure investors led by Macquarie Infrastructure Partners (MIP) has purchased utility company Puget Energy, based in Washington State.

Puget’s core business is Puget Sound Energy (PSE), which provides electricity and natural gas to the Puget Sound region of western Washington. The population of PSE’s service area is expected to grow by 28 percent – or about 1 million people – over the next 20 years, and the consortium will support PSE’s plans to spend nearly $5 billion over the next five years to meet anticipated energy supply needs and delivery infrastructure requirements.
