Asian companies cannot ignore rising need for compliance, says consultant

Former lawyer warns that although Asian compliance is growing, there are still institutional and market barriers

Gone are the days when compliance was only about paperwork and keeping piles of documents. Compliance today is a serious issue that companies cannot afford to neglect given regulatory changes and increased supervision by regulators, says Philippa Allen, founder of ComplianceAsia, an independent consulting firm based in Singapore.

Prior to setting up ComplianceAsia in 2003, Allen had been a lawyer and had also worked for LGT Asset Management and Dresdner Bank as head of their compliance
