Software Failure Costs For 2000 Put At $500 Billion

DULLES, VIRGINIA -- Losses worldwide from computer software failure last year are estimated at $500 billion in terms of lost business revenue, reduced productivity and damaged brand reputation, says Dulles-based software risk management firm Cigital Inc.

Cigital chief executive Jeffery Payne attributed the size of the loss to the large and increasing number of well-publicised failures and the recent spate of internet-borne computer viruses.
