EU expects smooth changeover on E-day


BRUSSELS -- European Commission officials said in November they were confident of a smooth changeover on January 1, or E-day, when euro notes and coins replace national currencies in 12 of the 15 nations of the European Union (EU).

Officials with the Commission, which is the EU’s ruling body, said they expected to have the changeover fully under control by the second or third week of January.

The officials were commenting on the latest monthly Eurobarometer survey, which recorded growing
