Reaping the biofuel benefits


Biofuels are set to take off, thanks to a European Union directive that many in the industry predict will make the production of this alternative energy source mandatory. Biofuel, produced from dry organic matter or combustible oils produced by plants (see box, page 20), has already attracted a few large structured products manufacturers, not content with offering their distributor and investor clients access to the usual underlyings.

Some EU member states have already started to make changes
