Maryam Haghighi is a visionary leader at the intersection of data, technology, and public policy. At the Bank of Canada, she is a driving force behind the Bank’s strategic vision for artificial intelligence, advanced analytics and quantum technologies. Under her leadership, her teams leverage cutting-edge techniques to shape the Bank’s approach, embedding data-driven insights to inform policymaking, operations, administration and risk management.
Her current work is focused on guiding policymakers through the challenges of technological disruption, with a keen emphasis on fostering innovation while ensuring stability and resilience. She is the Co-Chair of the G7 Central Banks Quantum Technologies Working Group. Before joining the Bank, she represented Canada on international panels for risk management to shape global technological policies. Her experience is at the confluence of digital transformation and strategy, crafting compelling narratives for balancing innovation and risk mitigation within the context of complex ecosystems, such as within central banking and finance.
She has published in top journals, served as reviewer and editor, including guest editor of the Journal of Econometrics. She is the recipient of the Young Alumni of the Year Award from the University of Ottawa, the Governor’s Award of Excellence, and the Gil Bennet Award in Governance from DeGroote School of Business. She holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Ottawa and is a Chartered Director
