Assen Slim is Professor of Economics at Inalco in Paris and teaches at ESSCA School of Management. He is also Vice-President for research, open science, digital humanities, and science and society at Inalco. His academic work stands at the crossroads of international economics, monetary theory, sustainability, and the political economy of post-socialist transformations.
A specialist in Eastern Europe and Eurasia, he has published extensively on economic change in post-socialist countries, European integration, economic disintegration, development assistance, and sustainability. Over the past several years, he has also developed a strong research agenda on cryptocurrencies, blockchain, and central bank digital currencies, examining their monetary nature, institutional implications, and links with broader economic and geopolitical transformations.
He received his PhD in Economics from Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne in 1997 and his Habilitation to Supervise Research in 2014. Alongside his research and teaching, he has held several academic leadership roles and been actively involved in editorial, scientific, and pedagogical initiatives. His recent work also includes contributions to open science and digital research infrastructures, notably through projects developed at Inalco.
Assen Slim is the author of several books for a broad readership, including Idées reçues sur les cryptomonnaies (2023), and regularly contributes to public debate on major economic issues, from monetary change to the long-term consequences of geopolitical and environmental disruptions.
