Germany forges Europe's first mainstream hedge fund market


In early January, Germany opened the way for the establishment of Europe's first mainstream onshore hedge fund market.

Some countries, such as Ireland and the Netherlands, have already relaxed their regulations governing hedge funds and others including the UK and France are currently reviewing theirs. Germany is the first of the continent's big countries to create a regulatory environment where everyone from retail investors to institutions can invest in these funds.
