Simon King and Ashley Willing have had a busy year as they approach the second anniversary of their first forays into managing long/short money.

From running a managed account back in April 2002, the pair moved to run Gartmore's AlphaGen Avior Fund, opened on 1 November 2001.

As one of few large asset managers overseeing long-only managers alongside equity hedge experts, Gartmore has a strong record in long/short operations ' Roger Guy's European long/short fund is believed to have run the longest
