Emerging market specialist Matterhorn uses an equity long/short strategy to invest across emerging and frontier markets. The portfolio finds opportunities by focusing on where consumption is growing.
The portfolio manager of Matterhorn’s Breithorn Fund, Paul Bate, has an obvious interest in monitoring the emerging and frontier markets he trades. However, his inquisitiveness takes him beyond what many would associate with most managers. He describes himself as “a detective, an explorer by nature”.
“I love looking at these places so I love going off and getting to understand how a new market works and seeing how it evolves,” he says.
