China beckons but Asia's better buying may be outside its borders

While China's growth story refuses to fall away despite concerns of a bubble forming that may be sensitive to oil-price shocks, investors in Asia ex-Japan should recognise how little of the growth story can be accessed through listed stocks.

"Stocks we are seeing listed on the Hong Kong market are not the most attractive situations," says Tom Maier, head of alternatives at Baring Asset Management.

But he says China can also be accessed via firms in South Korea, Japan and Australia- for example
