After a lot of last-minute haggling with the Inland Revenue, the London Stock Exchange finally rolled out its covered warrant product last autumn, many months behind schedule.

The idea was to offer an exchange-traded product that would let private and institutional investors deal in and obtain leverage on a variety of securities across several exchanges.
