The biggest challenge to the alternative asset management industry will be regulatory changes affecting the environment in which funds operate and are distributed. Consolidation and fear of blowups over the crisis have led to the larger managers taking the lion’s share of institutional money. This pressure has led managers to lower minimum investment sizes and fees and look elsewhere for distribution.
