Under-researched market offers value for Japan hedge fund managers

Investment banks' retreat from Japan means little of the equity market is properly researched, creating valuation anomalies

The opportunities that presently abound for hedge fund managers running Japan long/short books will become increasingly difficult to access as liquidity and changing rules in the region attract ever more managers, according to hedge fund experts.

Reacting to this, lawyers White & Case LLP last month established a Tokyo-based support group to help managers establish and operate funds in Asia.
