The US Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) is poised to propose a rule requiring hedge funds to register with that body.

As this publication went to press, the exact terms and language of the rule had not been published, but public statements by SEC officials suggest the rule will require hedge funds to disclose certain information and submit to periodic examinations of books and records. The SEC will formally adopt the rule only after a period of public comment, Congressional hearings
