HSBC CET1 hits 2022 low after Hang Seng buyout

Ratio falls as privatisation weighs on capital

HSBC’s Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) capital ratio fell to its lowest level since Q3 2022 after the group completed its privatisation of Hang Seng Bank, with strategic transactions knocking around 110 basis points from the ratio in Q1 2026. 

The bank’s CET1 ratio fell 90bp quarter on quarter to 14% after taking into account offsetting drivers, marking the sharpest quarterly decline since the start
