UniCredit’s credit derivatives notional jumps 125%

Increases in protection bought and sold far outpaced European peers

Notional amounts of credit derivatives at UniCredit surged 125% during the latter half of last year, far outpacing changes reported by other European Union dealers.

The Italian bank reported €20.1 billion ($23.2 billion) of bought credit protection as of end-December, up 94.2% from end-June. Notional of sold protection increased twice as fast, ballooning 172% to €18.4 billion.
