European exchange-traded IR derivatives balloon in H1

New highs in F&Os mirror OTC derivatives growth in BIS survey

Interest rate derivatives traded on European exchanges hit their highest level in more than a decade in the first half of 2025, echoing a sharp rise in over-the-counter activity reported by the Bank for International Settlements (BIS).

Turnover in interest rate futures and options (F&Os) reached $35.6 trillion, the highest since 2010. This represented an 18.2% rise compared to the previous quarter
