Barclays logs five VAR breaches amid tariff turmoil

Bank’s regulatory VAR model loses green status for the first time since 2018

Barclays incurred five value-at-risk backtesting exceptions in the second quarter, triggering a downgrade of its regulatory VAR model for the first time since Q2 2018.

The UK bank overshot its VAR threshold on a hypothetical profit-and-loss basis twice in April, once in May and again in June. It also breached VAR on an actual P&L basis in May.
