Time deposits climb higher at US regional banks

Comerica and Zions reported largest quarterly increase in Q2

Time deposits at nine US regional banks analysed by Risk Quantum surged by nearly a third in the second quarter, driving a sluggish recovery in total deposits following March’s banking crisis.

Deposits held for a fixed period rose by $27.8 billion, or 32.4%, on aggregate across the sample. The rise contributed to an overall increase in deposits, which were up by $20.7 billion, or 2.3%. The amount of time deposits as a proportion of total deposits rose from 9.4% to 12.1% quarter on quarter.
