

Cross-border loans to shadow banks top $7trn
Loans made to non-bank financial institutions by overseas lenders grew 17% in Q3 2019, data from the Bank for International Settlements shows. Lending to this segment has accelerated for four consecutive quarters, tipping outstanding cross-border claims above $7 trillion for the first time on record.
Cross-border interbank lending increased 5.7%, to $15.53 trillion, and to non-financial companies 7.6% to $2.4 trillion. Lending to all non-bank entities climbed 11.9%, to $14.99 trillion.
