EU G-Sibs add €2.7bn of op RWAs in 2018

Op risk charge anticipated to jump €21.5 billion under Basel III

Systemically important European Union banks’ operational risk-weighted assets grew by €2.7 billion ($3 billion) in 2018, with BNP Paribas and Crédit Agricole leading the charge.

Aggregate operational RWAs across the 11 global systemically important banks (G-Sibs) in the EU stood at €576.3 billion at end-December. Though this represents just a 0.5% aggregate increase year-on-year, it comes off the back of two consecutive years of declines.  

BNP Paribas posted the largest increase in euro
