BNP Paribas bolsters capital ratio on First Hawaiian sale

CET1 capital increases €516 million in third quarter

BNP Paribas strengthened its Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) capital ratio in the three months to end-September, reversing three consecutive quarters of decline.

The ratio improved to 11.75% from 11.46% at end-June, and is now at its highest since December 2017.

BNPP said 15 basis points of this increase was driven by two factors. First, the sale of 30.3% of its stake in First Hawaiian Bank this quarter. BNPP has steadily cut its holdings in the Honolulu-based lender since August 2016, and today
