An ambitious blueprint for the reform of the global securities clearing and settlement system was issued last month by the Group of Thirty (G-30). The initiative comprises 20 recommendations designed to reduce investor costs and strengthen market efficiency for the international clearance and settlement of securities.

The group hopes market participants will adopt the principles over a period of five to seven years. It called for financial institutions to reinforce their risk
