Resist the rise of the risk management machines

Recently, a light started blinking on the dashboard of my car. I am automotively challenged and the car manual was not very helpful. The instruction was to "bring your car to the dealership immediately", without further instructions. Should I drive or call a tow truck? The problem could be something minor – a short circuit in the electrical system, perhaps – or something really serious, with potentially deadly consequences.
