A landmark deal between French electricity generator Poweo and Norwegian energy company Statoil could signify the beginning of a new type of natural gas supplies to low-carbon gas-to-power production that will replace coal-fired plants and help Europe achieve its climate change targets.

The deal guarantees 20 years of natural gas supplies, roughly 0.5 billion cubic metres per year and worth $3 billion in total, to be delivered to Poweo's 413 megawatt combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) from Octobe
