Bank of America Merrill Lynch's restructure of its credit facility with Reliant Energy enabled the smooth purchase of NRG by Reliant.

In March 2009, US power giant NRG announced the $287.5-million purchase of Reliant Energy from RRI Energy, the second biggest retail power provider in Texas. Bank of America Merrill Lynch played a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth execution and completion of this major deal by restructuring its existing credit enhancement facility with Reliant Energy into an 18-month acquisition financing arrangement. The deal took place during a very difficult time in the credit markets.
