Pieter Verberne, Amsterdam PowerExchange’s (APX) chief operatingofficer, is a busy man. The Dutchexchange is finalising the technologyupgrading of its recent acquisitions, naturalgas exchange Enmo and Automated PowerExchange, both based in the UK. It is alsopreparing a bid for the Belgian government’sfreshly announced desire to see a powerexchange up and running by April 1, 2004. Andit has just launched a new product for industrialconsumers of energy, APX Light.

Speaking to EPRM just after the acquisitionof Enmo back in March, Verberne set out APX’saims for the European markets. The exchangeaims to be a multi-commodity, internationalbusiness, and its recent flurry of activity inEuropean markets is a significant step towardsthis goal. The Enmo acquisition gave it a presencein the UK natural gas market, and Verbernesays APX will now apply the knowledge andskills of that company to expanding its presencein continental gas markets.
