e-commerce could increase op risk for insurers

SANTIAGO -- Insurance companies could face an unwarranted increase in operational risks and an unproductive drain on resources if they embark on electronic commerce without a well thought-out strategy, insurance regulators warned in October.

The expansion of e-commerce, especially via the internet, results in important new challenges for the regulation and supervision of insurance, the regulators said in a paper that sought to identify the risks posed.
