US tackles home-host issues caused by Basel II delay

US financial regulators are working with foreign bank supervisors to minimise cross-border implementation difficulties that might arise from the country’s delayed Basel II plans.

Speaking at the International Center for Business Information's Risk Management Conference in Geneva, Switzerland, governor Susan Schmidt Bies, member of the Federal Reserve System Board of Governors, said the US supervisors take very seriously the potential negative consequences of the delay of Basel implementation plans.

"Understandably, internationally active organisations may worry that cross-border implementation will be complicated by the timing differences between the US and other Basel
