Isda AGM: top US securities regulator insists most crypto derivatives fall within SEC’s jurisdiction

The head of the US Securities and Exchange Commission has signalled a broader crackdown on crypto trading platforms, including venues transacting in derivatives linked to digital tokens.

Speaking at the International Swaps and Derivatives Association’s annual general meeting (AGM) in Madrid on May 11, SEC chair Gary Gensler reiterated the regulator’s stance that most crypto tokens meet the definition of securities under US law. As such, the SEC will seek to register and regulate the platforms
