Top-down culture change biggest challenge, BBA conference hears

Speakers emphasise importance of culture shift, but FCA focus on senior management could limit the effectiveness of ethics reforms


Driving good culture from the top of a firm down is the big challenge facing banks promoting ethical behaviour, delegates at a British Banker's Association (BBA) conference in London heard on December 4.

Culture change was a central topic at the BBA's "Better Banking" conference, and speakers highlighted the ability of boards to spread change downwards as one of the hardest tasks facing the industry.
