Forbes and Donaldson should give hedge funds a break

The weather is turning stormy for hedge fund managers. Whatever the rewards - and most hedge-fund managers are paid extraordinarily well - reading constantly that you are a danger to the known universe is enough to depress the strongest of spirits.

It is also unfair -- the witch-hunt on hedge funds is being led by people who fail to understand why the industry has grown so fast. And they overlook the flaws in mainstream fund management that have made the higher-risk business such a success.
