Regulatory oversight is the appropriate method of injecting accountability into a hedge fund industry that displays a transparency insufficient to guarantee accountability to its stakeholders, according to Robert Plaze, associate director of the division of investment management at the US Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC).

Plaze says the SEC has no interest in influencing the underlying strategies of hedge funds. However, speaking exclusively with Hedge Funds Review, Plaze says the
