E-reporting sheds light on hedge funds

The introduction of the electronic reporting system in March 2007 for hedge funds was a turning point for transparency in the Cayman Islands. The Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) requirement enables online submission and processing of audited accounts and other relevant information from Cayman regulated funds.

The project, which built on CIMA’s overall regulation, creates a wealth of information that provides easier and more accurate aggregation and dissemination of industry statistics. The introduction of e-reporting has also improved compliance with existing regulators, and is seen as a useful tool in examining the structure of the industry, as well as the impact and use of future regulation.
