Emir should include exchange-traded derivatives, says Gensler

CFTC chairman says European regulators should expand scope of Emir to include all derivatives, rather than OTC only

Gary Gensler, chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), has called on European regulators to expand the scope of the European Market Infrastructure Regulation (Emir) to include all derivatives, rather than over-the-counter contracts only.

Speaking at the London School of Economics today, Gensler called for regulators to ensure a level playing field exists between the US and Europe - under the Dodd-Frank Act, all standardised derivatives will be required to clear through
