CFTC to provide Dodd-Frank deadline exemptions today

Dodd-Frank deadline exemptions should limit market disruption, but more clarity on rules and timings needed, says CFTC commissioner Scott O’Malia

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) will today outline temporary exemptions to certain provisions in the Dodd-Frank Act, CFTC commissioner Scott O'Malia has told Energy Risk.

The Dodd-Frank Act is due to be implemented on July 16, but US regulators have struggled to keep pace with the huge volume of rule-making required under the legislation. According to consulting firm Accenture, 26 individual rule-making deadlines required by statute were missed in April alone.
