CFTC to rework position limits rule

CFTC Chairman confirms regulator will propose new rule on position limits as part of its expanded remit under financial legislation that could be enacted imminently by US President Obama

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) will draw up a new version of the position limits rule it proposed in January 2010, which was designed to prevent any one participant developing a concentration of futures positions in energy markets.

Speaking in New York on Thursday at a Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association event, CFTC chairman Gary Gensler said reworking the rule was part of the ongoing business of the Commission as its role increases in line with a regulatory
