ABA calls for extension of comment period for Basel II NPR

The leading industry association has asked US regulators to extend the deadline to comment on US Basel II rules.

US banks must be granted more time to comment on proposed Basel II rules, said the trade association for the industry in a letter to US regulators. A potential delay to the publication of proposed Basel Ia rules will not provide the promised overlap for the industry to weigh both Basel II and Basel Ia rules, and will not provide a “reasonable opportunity” to review and compare the different sets of rules, said the letter from the American Bankers’ Association (ABA), sent today.
