HKMA publishes consultation for Basel II rules

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has released the draft rules that will frame Basel II. The rules set out different approaches to determine capital adequacy, which are due to be adopted in Hong Kong by January 2007.

There will be few surprises for the industry, as Hong Kong is widely viewed as the national leader in terms of Basel II preparations.

The consultation will end on September 2, after which a final draft of the banking capital rules will be published and begin to be implemented.

The HKMA will be releasing a consultation on banking disclosure rules later this month. Click here to see a copy of the consultation paper.
