Geithner provides policy advice for Asia

Speaking at the Economic Society of Singapore, Geithner added that governments in the region need to re-orient policies away from building defences against crises and towards building a greater ability to adapt to change, and that this will require the construction of strong institutions to manage macroeconomic policy.

Geithner said it was understandable that regional governments were cautious, given the severity of the Asian crisis in the 1990s. But he noted that all the evidence points to
