New FSA chairman appointed

A new chairman of the UK's Financial Services Authority was announced yesterday by Chancellor Gordon Brown.

Callum McCarthy, currently chairman and chief executive officer of the Office of Gas and Electricity Markets, will take over from Howard Davies in September. He will attend FSA board meetings as an observer from May 2003.

“I am very pleased that Callum McCarthy has agreed to be the next Chairman of the FSA Board,” said Brown in a statement. “He brings to the FSA an unrivalled combination of experience of the public sector, experience as a senior practitioner in the financial services industry
