EC launches consultation on hedge fund supervision

LONDON - The recent Bernard Madoff fraud has thrown even greater weight behind the argument for tighter regulation of hedge funds. But the European Commission has already delivered on its promise to launch a public consultation on policy issues arising from the activities of the hedge fund industry, with a view towards developing appropriate regulatory initiatives.

Because a significant part of global hedge fund assets is managed and administered in Europe, the Commission hopes this consultation
