Hopes and fears in Benelux

More than 160 delegates attended the inaugural Structured Products Benelux conference in Brussels last month and while most speakers were optimistic about future growth in the markets, AFM, the Dutch regulator, noted how plenty of issues need addressing to protect consumers

In January, the financial watchdog for the Netherlands, Autoriteit Financiele Markten (AFM), said that it was close to completing its study into the structured retail products market. "There are reasons to be enthusiastic about the Dutch market and reasons to worry about this market," the AFM said at the time. Last month, the regulator presented its findings to delegates at the Structured Products Benelux event, and issued warnings regarding the need for more product transparency.
