Korean regulator monitors Citi and StanChart

The Korean Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) is monitoring Citigroup and Standard Chartered Bank's risk-management practices to ensure the firms have complied with regulations after acquiring local banks.

Citigroup and StanChart have both acquired Korean banks in the past two years. Sources say the FSS has launched an investigation of the banks' transfer of balance sheet assets, such as derivatives, to their Korean entities. Citi acquired KorAm Bank to form Citibank Korea, while StanChart took
